The American healthcare system is confusing to many people. Insurance coverage is constantly changing, and the costs for surgical procedures are often difficult to forecast. Increasingly, patients are being left with a greater responsibility for payment of the surgical bill after the insurance payment. We want to assist you in understanding your responsibility for payment of the charges incurred for your surgery.
Bills for Services
You will be charged a facility fee for all services provided by Audubon Surgery Center. This fee does not include fees for any of the following services that may be incurred during your stay at our facility, and you will receive separate billings for these services:
- Your Doctor
- Anesthesia Services
- Laboratory Tests, Pathology, etc.
If you have health insurance, we will bill your insurance company for the facility fee. If you do not have health insurance or if your surgery is not covered by insurance the facility charges must be paid within 90 days from the date of surgery.
We have entered into contracts with many insurance companies, which will often result in a discount of the billed charges. However, we cannot guarantee that your insurance company will pay any or all of these charges, and you will be responsible for that portion of the allowed charge not paid by your insurance company.
Your Responsibility for the Balance
You should receive an explanation of benefits from your insurance company showing how our claim was processed and indicating your responsibility for any balance. You will also receive a statement from our facility reflecting any amounts paid and any discounts or adjustments to your account. Payment of the balance on the statement will typically be due within 90 days from the date of the statement. For your convenience, we accept personal checks and all credit cards.
For any other financial questions regarding your surgery, please call our business office. We will be happy to assist you in any way possible.

If you have health insurance coverage, you are strongly encouraged to consult with your health insurer to determine accurate information about your financial responsibility for a particular health care service provided by a health care provider associated with Audubon Surgery Center. If you do not have health insurance coverage, you are strongly encouraged to contact our business office personnel at (719) 867-7500 to discuss payment options prior to receiving a health care service from a health care provider at this office since posted health care prices may not reflect the actual amount of your financial responsibility. Actual services provided during a surgical procedure may vary from the scheduled procedure and price quote, including but not limited to the medically necessary use of high cost drugs, implants, supplies and any procedures other than the original quote based on individual circumstances for each patient case.
