Podiatry at Audubon Surgery Center
Podiatry is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower leg. Podiatrists are trained to provide care for both simple and complex foot problems. Podiatrists at Audubon Surgery Center use a variety of diagnostic and treatment modalities to care for our patients. We work closely with our patients to develop a treatment plan that meets their individual needs. Podiatry services at Audubon Surgery Center include but are not limited to:
- Hammertoe Repair: Hammertoe Repair is a surgical procedure to correct a Hammer Toe. A Hammer Toe is a deformity of the toe caused by contracture of the tendon or other foot structures. This can result in pain and difficulty walking. Hammertoe Repair involves release of the contracted structures, realignment of the bones and tendons, and sometimes joint fusion. The goal of surgery is to relieve pain and improve function.
- Bunionectomy: Bunionectomy is a surgical procedure to remove a bunion. A bunion is a deformity of the big toe, characterized by a prominence of the bone and tissue at the base of the big toe. Bunionectomies are performed to relieve pain and pressure associated with bunions.
- Metatarsal Fracture Treatment: Metatarsal fractures are a common injury, particularly in athletes who participate in high-impact sports such as football, basketball, and soccer. Metatarsal fractures can also occur as a result of falls or direct trauma to the foot. Treatment for a metatarsal fracture will depend on the location and severity of the injury. In some cases, a simple splint or boot may be all that is needed to protect the injured bone and allow it to heal. More serious fractures may require surgery to realign the bones and stabilize them with pins or screws. Following treatment, physical therapy may be necessary to restore range of motion and strength to the foot.
